LEBANON Tyre (Sur): A boy saves a few books from the rubble of his home, a six storey apartment building that was bombed by the Israeli air force. The building was in the middle of a densely populated area in the city of Tyre. Three casualties were reported. Photo used on the cover of Alexandria brochure.

  1. Women in Peacemaking project: Commemorations of the centenary of the Nobel Prize awarded to IPB Vice President Bertha von Suttner (1905) - Geneva, Prague, Austria, Udine, The Hague etc. Exhibitions, symposiums, press articles and so on.
  2. PRAGUE - workshop bringing together peace-women from Russia and Chechnya.
  3. LONDON – Consultation on new international project: Sustainable Disarmament for Sustainable Development + COUNCIL meeting.

  2. FLORENCE - international seminar on The Future of the United Nations. In collaboration with IPB-Italia.
  3. FLORENCE – award of the MacBride Peace Prize to the leaders of the Geneva Initiative on the Middle East, + COUNCIL meeting.
  4. Participation in the ROME Nobels Summit organised by the city of Rome and the Gorbachev Foundation.
  5. GENEVA: Co-organisation of international seminar on Depleted Uranium weapons
2003
  1. ATHENS – IPB Triennial conference : Human Security:  the United Nations, the Olympic Truce and Civil Society
  2. Participation in the ROME Nobels Summit organised by the city of Rome and the Gorbachev Foundation
  3. Appointment of H.E. Jayantha Dhanapala (Sri Lanka) as IPB Honorary President.
  4. Organisation of NGO programme at NPT Review Conference PrepComm (GENEVA), in collaboration with NGO Committees for Disarmament – and preparatory/follow up seminars.
  5. Award of MacBride Prize to Nihon Hidankyo (hibakusha from Hiroshima and Nagasaki) – NAGASAKI.
  6. Opening of ITALY office (Lugo) and development of campaign on European arms exports + other activities.
  7. Launch and distribution of new book: From War to Peace, co-published with Nonviolence International. Analysis and lessons learned from 9 ceasefire and peace negotiation processes. GENEVA

2002
