IPB Book : Whose Priorities ? In Six Languages |
 |
A
guide for campaigners on military and social spending.
By Colin Archer, IPB Secretary-General
This
book is a follow-up to IPB's earlier volume Warfare or Welfare?
Disarmament for Development in the 21st Century. While that work
attempted to describe the nature of the problems facing us, the
new publication sketches out some approaches to campaigning in opposition
to militarism, and offers summary accounts of 18 projects undertaken
by civil society groups around the world.

Promotion Ideas
Some
readers may have received by post in late 2007 a copy of our new book
'Whose Priorities?' - A guide for campaigners on military and social
spending - together with the annual Appeal. This publication contains
some ideas on strategies for campaigning as well as 18 concrete examples
of current campaigns around the world. I hope too that you have had a
chance to look at it and think how it might be used in your own work.
Please pass it on to colleagues and friends who might be interested. If
you did not receive a copy, please send us a message and we will get it
in the post to you. We are keen to get this material distributed more
widely, in order to build up our international campaign. So please consider
the following:
-
Electronic
version: The full
text is now available, but note that it is 74 pages
-
Translations:
a German, Arabic, Spanish and Catalan translations are already available. We are planning to arrange translation
into other languages before long. If you can help with this task please
get in touch.
-
Hyperlink:
Please consider making a link to our site from your own website or
blog.
-
Ordering
hard copies: Just let us know how many copies you can realistically
use. The normal price is 20 CHF + 10% postage costs, but this is negotiable,
esp. in the case of developing countries. We are especially keen to
get it distributed to libraries, schools and colleges.
-
Promotion.
We encourage you to:
- include a reference or listing in your NEWSLETTER
- publish a REVIEW
- distribute copies of the FLYER
-
Additional
campaign reports: we are conscious that the book does not cover all
activities related to the theme. If you have a report on actions or
programmes related to the struggle to reduce military spending and
to re-invest resources in social justice and anti-poverty work, please
send it in and we will add to the website. We are also extending the
list of relevant websites and publications.
- And
finally :
Financial support. It costs quite a lot to distribute hard copies around
the world. If you can, please send us a donation or book-payment to
help us cover costs. SEE HERE : How
to transfer money to IPB.
