Governments

Development agencies

Development actors are the ones who would benefit the most from a reallocation of funds from the military to the development sector. They are also the ones working on the ground and able to share their expertise with advocacy organizations like us. Therefore, we engage closely with them and encourage our members and partners to do the same with their national development organizations.

With governments and development agencies, the aim is to encourage institutions to lend their weight to a major shift in political and budgetary priorities. The world is rapidly learning to ‘green’ the economy, a tremendous shift in methods, materials and manpower. Part of this transformation must be the reduction in the use of public money and brainpower on militarism and the choice of a human security path.

Research Community

A quick survey of programmes run by higher education and training institutions tells much about their priorities and their funders. Vast sums are channelled through military academies and weapons-related programmes which robs social and environmental projects of vital intellectual resources. IPB is committed to building dialogue with key actors in the research field in order to strengthen the argument for different priorities.
